Final Project

My company is Apartment 62, it is a furniture and home goods store that specializes in high quality products. Our furniture and products are a blend of vintage and modern that makes for the perfect ellectic pieces to add to any home. The target audience includes urban families/couples, and higher class clientele but it is also for anyone who loves stylish decor. The color and design choices I decided on were to reflect the vintage chic vibe of the company. The brown, red hues in the business card, letterhead, and brochure are the color of furniture. The lamps in the logo are industrial style pendent lights that I believe capture the kind of products the company is selling. The layout and the style of the documents are clean and simple which reflects the high end quality of the company

Corporate Identity Questionaire

1)   What is your business?
-A vintage chic home decor store.

2)   Describe your business in one sentence
-We provide home decor and furniture that is vintage/modern.

3)   Who is your target audience?
-Trendy urdan families and crafty women.

4)   Who are your competitors?
-West Elm and Pottery Barn.

5)   What makes them better/worse than your product/service?
-Pottery Barn has many essential products and decoration from trendy modern homes, however all there stuff looks the same. Many of their products are cream or white.
West Elm has a great variety of products for the home, and they are always coming up with new products that are on trend. They do a good job of blending modern styles with eclectic and vintage styles.

6)   Do you currently have an identity?
     -No

7)   (If your answer to #6 is no, skip this question)  What do you like about it and what don’t you like about it?

These following questions might seem silly, but their purpose is to help generate ideas.

-a cool lamp or a couch.

5)   If your customer was a cartoon character, who would it be?

Project 4: Lyrical Collage

For this collage I chose the song dream by Priscilla Ahn. The song is about childlike innocence and a dream like state. I wanted to have a picture of a girl on a swing, but for it to look like she is dreaming. The song talks about flying so I picked a photo of the sky and overlayed it on top of the photo of the girl on the tire swing so it would look ethereal. The song also talks about the "stars smiled down on me" so I put a picture of stars over top the photo and lowered the opacity to make it transparent. You could not really see the tree in the picture I chose, so I added a tree branch at the top of the photo and placed in under the layers of the clouds and the stars so it would blend with the original photo. To go along with the flying theme I also added silhouettes of birds to the photo. I chose the script because it complimented the ethereal feel of the collage.

Project 2: part 3

Final Logo:

For my final logo I designed my own font. I wanted the logo to be unique and I wanted a font that would be a little whimsical, since it is vintage inspired furniture, but still structured since it is a furniture store. I chose the shape around the numbers and the placement of them to resemble numbers on an apartment door. I wanted to keep the color scheme simple; I researched other stores that had similar merchandise as my store and most of the logos where fairly simple with only a couple of colors. The teal and cream I chose for the logo have a vintage feel but can also be modern.

Logos: Part 1

Company Names:

1. Hands and Feet- an organization that feeds and clothes the homeless and offers support and counseling for the broken and hurting in the community. It also builds relationships with the homeless to try to find them job opportunities, better living arrangements, support, etc.

2. Metamorphosis- a organization that helps girls who struggle with self worth and image issues. It offers counseling and programs that helps girls realize how special they really are.

3. Apartment 62 - a company that sells vintage inspired, chic home decor. This would take the vinatge, flea market style I love but revamp it to make it more modern and classy so that it can fit in with any style home.

4. Canvas inc.- a art supply store that caries everything an artist could ever need, from brushes to clay.

5. Autumn-a clothing store that sells modern, trendy clothes with a vintage flare.

Project 2: Logos

Logos are apart of our everyday lives. We are surrounded by logos everywhere we go, but we don't normally notice how much they are apart of our lives till we stop and think about all the products we use everyday and how their logos help us relate to those products.

1.

Starbucks has one of the most recognizable logos I know, but maybe that is just because I'm a little obsessed with their products. Their logo can be put on shirts, mugs, coffee bags, or anything else. The mermaid is also a strong graphic by itself, it is not too detailed but made up of clean graphic lines and shapes. If you shrink it down it might not be as readable as McDonald's golden arches but I feel like it is still as successful.

2.

The Olympics logo is an amazing logo. It is so simple but so powerful, it is universal and can be understood by any language . It is simply made up of five circles that are blue, yellow, red, green, and black. So simple, and yet if you show this to almost anyone they will immediately recognize it.

 3.

Chili's logo is a classic example of many logos of popular food chains like Taco Bell, Burger King, and Applebee's. The company name has interesting typography and the logo includes a simple image that represents the name of the company. Applebee's has an apple and Taco Bell has a bell, and Chili's has, as you might have guessed, a chili for their logo. While it might not be that creative it is very affective.

4.
I love Canon cameras, but I don't think their logo is that successful. The typography of the logo is unique and works well for the logo, but I feel like logos are more successful when it has a bold graphic that can be shrunk down but still be recognizable. I think the Canon logo is kind of boring, while I think that keeping things relatively simple is good for a successful logo this one is too simple.
 5.

Target has a pretty succesful logo. Even without the word target the symbol of the red and wite target is still recognizable, no matter what the size. It seems that companies with simple, single word names have some of the most successful logos, like apple and shell, because the logo is a simple bold graphic of the name.

Little bit about me

My name is Rachel Baeder. I am a junior studying at University of Tampa. I'm from Tampa and have lived here my entire life. I love Florida, though sometimes I do miss having changes in seasons and a terrain that isn't flat as far as the eye can see. But there is something wonderful about being able to go to the beach during winter and stick your feet in the water. I am a studio art major with a concentration in painting. I have always had a fascination with art; my grandfather was an oil painter and he really sparked my interest in art at a young age. When I was little I would draw on anything and everything I could get a hold of! Painting is something that I love to do and I'm so lucky that I get to study it everyday. I'm not sure quite yet what I want to do with my art degree, maybe teach or work in a gallery.                                                                                                                                                    I work mostly with paints and pencils so I hope that Beginning Digital Design will help me learn how to work digitally. I am also excited to learn Photoshop and Illustrator!
